After its first period of trading ending in 2003, Base Structures achieved year-on-year sales growth of £1m up until 2008. For the last five years, throughout the global economic recession, the company has maintained sales in the region of £5m per annum. During the early part of 2014 company decided that it needed to restructure and reorganise its works to maximise the changes to the existing markets and capitalise on new and emerging market opportunities. It is now in a position where it seeks to once again enter a phase of ambitious, yet realistic growth. Over the next five years, Base Structures intends to achieve sales growth of £1m per annum resulting in excess of £10m sales by 2019.
The sales growth will be achieved in part through increasing market share within the UK tensile fabric market with improved offerings within the standards and smaller structures markets as well as increased manufacturing output maximising and realising the true capacity of the facilities that we have. Primary drivers for sales growth will come from export-led sales and new markets within zoos and environmental products from our own team as well as acquisitions and mergers helping to diversify in to additional sectors with the fabric industry. The company is already exporting its products to the Middle East, Europe, North America and Scandinavia. As the largest provider of tensile fabric structures to the London 2012 Olympic Games, focus is now shifting to international opportunities at major events.
Whilst sales growth is important, ensuring that this growth is profitable is paramount. To this end the company has invested in the development of its people and systems (such as ISO9001 and ISO14000) to help drive gross margins through better pricing and project management from 25% to 30% over the next five years. The base line plan aims to deliver over £970K net profit by 2019 increasing to £2m with the successful acquisitions.
